How to Brew Tea the Right Way: A Kapemai Lover’s Guide

So, you’ve got your hands on a beautiful box of Kapemai tea (or five, who’s counting?), and now you’re wondering: “How do I brew this the right way?”

Don’t worry we’ve got you.

Whether you’re sipping on the grassy freshness of our Darjeeling Green, starting your day with the bold Assam Black, or ending it with the soothing floral notes of Oolong, the perfect cup is just a few minutes (and a few tips) away.

Let’s dive into the art (and science) of brewing tea; specifically, how to brew Kapemai Darjeeling Black Tea, Green Tea, Oolong, Assam Black, and our crowd-favourite Classic Chai.

There’s no perfect way to brew tea but this is our recommended way, shaped by centuries of tea culture and tuned for today’s taste.

Darjeeling Black Tea 🌸

Tasting Notes: Floral, muscatel, delicate
Best Enjoyed: Afternoon pause, post-lunch reset
Temperature: 80–90 °C
Steep Time: 3–5 minutes
Ratio: 1 tsp per 200 ml

How to Brew:

  1. Add 1 tsp of Kapemai Darjeeling Black Tea to your pot or strainer.

  2. Pour 200 ml hot water (80–90 °C).

  3. Steep for 3–5 minutes.

  4. Strain and enjoy warm, no milk needed.

Darjeeling is India’s pride. Drink it plain to truly savour its complex aroma and light floral notes.

Darjeeling Green Tea 🌿

Tasting Notes: Grassy, light, slightly nutty
Best Enjoyed: Mornings, post-meal detox, mid-day refresh
Temperature: 75–80 °C
Steep Time: 2–3 minutes
Ratio: 1 tsp per 200 ml

How to Brew:

  1. Add 1 tsp of Kapemai Darjeeling Green Tea to your infuser.

  2. Pour 200 ml of water cooled to 75–80 °C (boil water and let it rest for 2 mins).

  3. Steep for 2–3 minutes.

  4. Strain and sip slowly—no milk or sugar.

Re-steep the same leaves 2–3 times. Each cup tastes slightly different.

Oolong Tea 🌅

Tasting Notes: Floral, complex, smooth
Best Enjoyed: Evenings, slow sipping, winding down
Temperature: 80–90 °C
Steep Time: 3–5 minutes
Ratio: 1 tsp per 200 ml

How to Brew:

  1. Add 1 tsp of Kapemai Oolong Tea to your pot or strainer.

  2. Pour 200 ml water heated to 80–90 °C.

  3. Steep for 3–5 minutes.

  4. Strain and sip.

Oolong is best when re-steeped 2–3 times, each round gives a deeper, more mellow cup.

Assam Black Tea 💪

Tasting Notes: Strong, malty, full-bodied
Best Enjoyed: Mornings, work breaks, with or without milk
Temperature: 80–90 °C
Steep Time: 3–5 minutes
Ratio: 1 tsp per 200 ml

How to Brew:

  1. Add 1 tsp of Kapemai Assam Black Tea to your infuser or teapot.

  2. Pour 200 ml of hot water (just off the boil, ~80–90 °C).

  3. Steep for 3–5 minutes.

  4. Strain and sip. Add milk or sugar if desired.

A strong, smooth base for those who like their tea kadak, but balanced.

Classic Chai (CTC Assam) ❤️

Tasting Notes: Spicy, bold, nostalgic
Best Enjoyed: Monsoon evenings, breakfast, snack time
Temperature: 90–100 °C (boiling)
Steep Time: 5–8 minutes (with milk)
Ratio: 1 tsp per 200 ml (half water, half milk)

How to Brew:

  1. Add 1 tsp of Kapemai Classic Chai to 100 ml boiling water in a saucepan.

  2. Simmer for 3–5 minutes.

  3. Add 100 ml milk and sugar or jaggery.

  4. Simmer another 2–3 minutes.

  5. Strain and serve hot.

This is how India does comfort. Strong, sweet, and made for conversations.

Pro Brewing Tips 

  • Use a milk pan or saucepan for chai don’t use kettles for milk tea.

  • Filtered water = better tea (especially important if your local water is hard).

  • Re-steep teas like green, oolong, black (loose leaf) to get more value from your leaves.

  • Experiment! Steep longer for stronger flavor, shorter for subtlety.

  • Don’t microwave your tea. Just… don’t.
