How to Make Cold Brew Tea: Oolong, Passion Fruit, Orange & Mint
Kholizio A. KapemaiShare
Welcome back to the Kapemai Cold Brew Series, where every week we bring you a new recipe built around our favorite formula: 1 tea, 1 fruit, 1 citrus, 1 herb. Cold brew tea is one of the simplest (and most delicious) ways to enjoy loose-leaf tea, and this week’s creation is all about tropical vibes: Kapemai Oolong Tea + Passion Fruit + Orange + Mint.
The result? A fragrant, floral, tangy-sweet brew that feels like sipping sunshine with a breeze of mint.
Why Cold Brew Tea?
If you’re new to it, cold brew tea is exactly what it sounds like: tea steeped slowly in cold water instead of hot. The magic of this method is in the patience: as the leaves steep over 12–24 hours, they release delicate flavors without bitterness. Compared to iced tea (which is usually brewed hot and then cooled down), cold brew tea is smoother, less astringent, and often naturally sweeter.
And when you use high-quality loose-leaf tea (like our single-origin Oolong), you really taste the difference. Cold water draws out layered flavors that hot brewing sometimes overpowers, making every sip refreshing, complex, and deeply satisfying.
The Kapemai Cold Brew Formula: 1 + 1 + 1 + 1
Every recipe in this series follows a simple structure that anyone can replicate at home:
- 1 Tea – the base that defines the character (this week: Oolong).
- 1 Fruit – adds sweetness, texture, and depth (Passion Fruit).
- 1 Citrus – brings zest and balance (Orange).
- 1 Herb – ties it all together with aroma (Mint).
This makes experimenting approachable while keeping the flavors interesting.
Ingredients You’ll Need
- 4 cups of water (about 1 liter)
- 6–8 spoons of Kapemai Oolong Tea
- 3 ripe passion fruits (pulp + seeds scooped out)
- 1 orange (peeled, peel included, fruit lightly smashed)
- A handful of fresh mint leaves
Method: How to Make Cold Brew Tea at Home
- Start with the passion fruits – scoop the pulp and seeds into a jar. Their tangy, tropical aroma sets the tone of this brew.
- Prep the orange – peel it, but don’t throw the peel away. The zest carries essential oils that add refreshing bitterness. Smash the orange lightly to release juice and add both peel + pulp into the jar.
- Add the mint leaves – a handful of fresh leaves brings cooling balance to the tropical flavors.
- Measure the tea – add 6–8 spoons of Kapemai Oolong Tea. Its semi-oxidized character makes it floral, fruity, and perfectly suited for cold brewing.
- Pour in the water – add 4 cups (about 1 liter). Close the jar or bottle and refrigerate for 12–24 hours.
- Strain & serve – remove tea leaves and fruit chunks. Pour into glasses and enjoy chilled.
Why This Combo Works
- Oolong tea – floral, smooth, slightly fruity base.
- Passion fruit – tangy sweetness with a tropical edge.
- Orange & peel – citrus brightness + a little bitterness for balance.
- Mint – cool, fresh finish that ties it all together.
This is one of those cold brew teas that doesn’t just refresh, it lingers with layers of flavor.
Serving Suggestions
- Enjoy as-is for a naturally bright, fruity cold brew tea.
- Add sugar syrup or honey while serving if you prefer it sweeter.
- Serve over ice with a sprig of mint for a café-style touch.
